For this series, I had to start with what I had, with where I was. I had pencils and paper. I had a computer, a graphics tablet, and a scanner. I had been teaching computer classes for a few years. Those were my tools.
This Sargent Cypress is in the El Sobrante Valley and is on the National Registry of Large Trees. It is the largest of its species in the U.S.A. Framed 29x41"
I was following a fire trail to a new area (to me) of the Sobrant Ridge and just before decending into a stand of trees, this one seemed to be standing guard by the trail. Framed 29x41"
I called it Dominican Cedar because its on the campus of Dominican University in San Rafael, CA. My friend Dr. Arthur Ammann told me about it. It is impressive enough from the street, but from this view it appears to have a waterfall gushing from it the way the bark has grown. I believe it is a Lebanon Cedar. Framed 29x41"
This and "Long Arm Oak" are the same tree on Sobrante Ridge. From this view it appears to be conducting music. Its a California Coast Live Oak. Framed 29x41"
